Applied tech leadership.
What actually works.

Most technology podcasts are about the technology. CTO Unfiltered isn’t. It’s about the people, the politics, the organizational dynamics, and the hard decisions that define whether a technology leader succeeds or gets shown the door.

Mike Schubert brings the one perspective missing from most of the conversations out there: a senior exec who’s actively running a massive portfolio, learning in real time, and willing to say what others won’t.

Regulated industries. Fortune 500 reality. No hype. No punditry. Just the practitioner lens — where “just move fast” gets people fired.

🧠
Practitioner, Not Pundit
Active VP running a $75M+ technology portfolio. This isn’t armchair commentary — it’s from inside the room where it actually happens.
🏢
Regulated Industry Lens
Insurance, healthcare, financial services — where compliance is real, stakes are high, and “just ship it” can end careers.
🎯
The People Layer
The hardest part of the job has nothing to do with the technology. Every episode digs into the human and organizational dynamics that actually determine outcomes.

Honest About the Gap
“Out over my skis but eyes open” — no pretense of having all the answers. The most useful conversations come from admitting what you don’t know.

Episodes

New episodes every two weeks. Solo takes when the moment calls for it. Guest conversations that go places other podcasts won’t.

Guest Lineup

CTOs, CIOs, VPs, academics, HR executives, and a few people who’ll surprise you. The show brings in the voices technology leaders actually need to hear — not just the ones making the rounds on every other podcast.

About the Host

Mike Schubert has spent 30 years navigating the gap between what technology promises and what organizations can actually absorb. He went back to Georgia Tech for a graduate degree in Computer Science (AI focus) — not at 22, but mid-career, after already running large programs.

He oversees a technology portfolio north of $75M in a Fortune 500 regulated environment. He has shipped AI initiatives in insurance, spoken at AI4, been published in academic research, and spent three decades watching good technology fail because of bad change management.

He built this show because the conversation he wanted to have did not exist. Real talk. Practitioner lens. No hype.

“The job is really about people and change leadership. Technology is the context, not the content.”

— Mike Schubert
